Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) celebrated the Global Wind Day on 30th June 2018 at The Claridges, New Delhi. Mr Anand Kumar IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Mr KS Popli, Chairman and Managing Director, IREDAgraced the event as the Guest of Honour. The Secretary MNRE has reiterated India’s commitment to fight climate change and commended IWTMA for its efforts in promoting green wind energy.
On the occasion of Global Wind Day IWTMA had also organised a painting competition among Delhi schools. 220 children participated, winners of which were awarded at the event site by Shri Mr Anand Kumar.
Delivering the keynote on the occasion Mr Kumar said, “Our dedicated efforts have helped us attain 4th position in global Wind Power installed capacity. In our quest to realisePrime Minister ShriNarendraModi’s dream of a clean energy future for the ‘New India’, we have set up a target of 70 GW and beyond for wind by 2022. With the emerging area of Wind-Solar Hybrid and Offshore India is transitioning to lead the way in Wind energy.”
With a long coastal line of 7600 Kms, India has an estimated offshore potential of around 70 GW. The government has set an offshore target of 5 GW by 2025 and 30 GW by 2030.
